Moved to Brighton 1984
Hospital Doctor for five years (1981 - 1986) [ a lot of A&E work - blood,
guts , and pain] .
During time as hospital doctor started evening classes in life modelling found
out that I had a facility with materials and fell in love with making
things straight away.Tutor (Mike Smith) suggested doing a sculpture degree.
Salvaged remains of doctoring career; qualified to become a GP then left the
next week to run off and join Eastbourne Art college foundation course (86-87)
Fine art at Falmouth school of art 1987-1990
Lived and worked as a full time sculptor in Brighton 1990-99. Concentrated on
making, outdoor , metal, moving sculptures mostly in copper.
Art tutor in Hawkes bay, New Zealand 1995 preaching gospel of Kinetic Art
Featured in a BBC TV documentary called downshifting about people who followed
their dreams but who took a HUGE cut in salary (1996)
1999 fell in love with and renovated derelict mill in Penryn,Cornwall to make
studio of dreams -sold house in Brighton.
Since then worked with Kneehigh theatre Company. on three shows.
Made several outdoor sculptures for the World famous Eden Project.(sunflower
sculpture and large pots)
Two international exhibitions in Paris and Hamburg
Artist in Residence in Torquay arts week in May last year.(made giant pair of
flapping wings on sea front)
Handrail and drinking fountains for Falmouth town centre
Grampound primary school,near St Austell (arranged children into giant sunflower
sculpture)
fountains and outdoor sculptures for locals etc etc
Last year worked with my favorite theatre company Forkbeard Fantasy
based in the Somerset countryside of England on a production of Frankenstein
which was a critical and box office success
this year , worked a lot on building the mill (including 3 spiral staircases).Was part of an exhibition at lemon st gallery christmas show and am in process of building a giant for St Breward - a fantastic primary school on bodmin moor .
